Mark Stamford is the Founder and CEO of OccamSec. Mark started playing around with  security at age 11, eventually turning it into a career where he has over 25 years of professional experience in cybersecurity, operations, control assessment, and related fields. Prior to OccamSec he ran the threat and vulnerability management program at UBS, was a senior penetration tester at KPMG, and worked for a financial services company in the early wild west days of the Internet.  Mark has had two handles in his life, both of which he has sworn never to use again or repeat due to them seeming cool at the time, but now, not so much…

Security assessments haven’t changed for decades, bad guys however, have. The gap between the reality of attackers activities and assessments is growing.

We’ll discuss some of these gaps and how we fix them. There will be some discussion of attacks, the odd piece of interesting intel, why we still need assessments, and  pitfalls in security controls, all wrapped up in the (possibly) jaded opinions of someone who has been breaking into things for an eternity.
